High School Graduation 

To graduate from Washington High School, students must complete required coursework and earn a specified number of credits.

In order to obtain a High School diploma from an alternative or continuation high school, students must complete the following requirements:

  • English--4 years
  • Math--2 years (including completion of Algebra or equivalent)
  • World History--1 year
  • US History--1year
  • Economics--1 semester
  • Government--1 semester
  • Biological Science--1 year
  • Physical Science--1 year
  • Physical Education--2 years (mandatory in grade 9)
  • Foreign Language or Visual and Performing Arts--1 year

Students must complete the above requirements and electives totaling 200 units.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine eligibility for student financial aid.

It is used by the federal government to determine a family's eligibility for grants, work-study, and loans to pay for college.

States, individual colleges and universities, and private scholarship programs also use information from the FAFSA to make financial aid decisions.

Seniors, you should complete the FASA as soon as possible beginning Oct. 1st!

California Dream Act

The California Dream Act is a state law and state financial aid for Dreamers remains legal in California.

AB 540

California Assembly Bill 540 (AB540) passed in 2001 permits qualified immigrant students to pay in-state tuition.

What is AB540:

  • Attended a CA high school for 3 or more years;
  • Graduated from a CA high school or attained the equivalent
  • File an affidavit with your college or university stating that you have or intend to file an application to legalize your immigration status, if applicable
  • AB504 students cannot apply for the FAFSA
